My Story

After studying music at university I have spent ten years building my teaching and education practice in schools and privately. I have always enjoyed the relationships with people that teaching provides, so I wanted to deepen this element of the work - music therapy allows me to use my creativity, ability to attune to others and attentiveness in a completely unique way.

I completed my MSc in Music Therapy at Queen Margaret University and since qualifying have worked extensively across a range of schools, supporting children and young people with social and emotional needs, as well as those with additional support requirements and complex needs.

I really enjoy using my own creativity and the improvisational nature of music therapy, and how every session can be different. I use a range of instruments and musical techniques in my sessions, including but not limited to, voice, cello, piano, ukulele, guitar or steel tongue drum.

What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is a recognised clinical practice that uses music and the therapeutic relationship to support people whose lives are affected by illness, disability, or injury. Through music-making, people can explore feelings, build connections, and express themselves in ways that words sometimes can’t.

Music therapists are HCPC-registered professionals who work with people of all ages, backgrounds and needs. Sessions often involve live, improvised music using a range of instruments and the voice, allowing each person to create their own unique way of communicating and connecting through sound.

For more information, see the British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT).
